East Meadow High School is pleased to announce that the following students have been recognized for their exceptional work in science research:• Dominika Swieboda, a senior, received Honorable Mention (second place) at the Long Island Psychology Fair for her project “The Effect of Financial Status on a Woman’s Choice of Mate.”• Shamoon Rizvi and Shujat Khan, both sophomores, finished in the top 30% of their category at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF). They were asked to return for round two with their project “The Effects of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Fibers on the Water Retention of Concrete.”• Katrina Bamba and Nathan Siegelaub, both freshmen, were in the top 10% of the country and received Honorable Mention in the Toshiba Exploravision Competition for their project “The Personal Pilot: I Believe I Can Fly.”• Robert Barracca and Joshua Varughese, both freshmen, were also in the top 10% of the country and received Honorable Mention in the Toshiba Exploravision Competition for their project “Solar Powered Computerized Advanced Revolutionary Filter (S.C.A.R.F.).”
Additionally, after participating in the Long Island Science Fair at Hofstra University on March 4, seven students have made it to the final round where they will compete against other finalists from Nassau and Suffolk Counties for a gold, silver, or bronze medal. The final round will be held at Hofstra University on April 29. Congratulations and best of luck in the next round to the following students:
